Greece: Further flooding possible in Athens Nov. 17 /update 2

Mandra have been permanently damaged and roads remain blocked due to mud deposits. Recovery efforts  are ongoing.

Further rainfall and storms are forecast in the area on Friday, November 17, which may cause further flooding and transportation disruptions.

Context

On November 15, towns and roads near Athens flooded following hours of torrential rain, trapping residents in their homes and causing substantial property damage. Schools and businesses were temporarily closed in the Mandra, Nera Peramos, and Megara areas and significant transportation disruptions were reported.

Individuals present in Greece are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to all advice issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
