Ireland: Five days of rail strikes beginning Nov. 1

Rail worker strikes to cause major disruptions November 1, 7, 14, 23 and December 8; all trains canceled on these dates

Warning

Event

Unions representing Irish Rail workers have announced a series of 24-hour strikes taking place on November 1, 7, 14, 23, and December 8. According to Irish Rail, all services on Intercity, DART, and commuter routes that would normally operate on these dates are expected to be canceled. Increased road congestion and increased demand for taxis is likely as commuters use alternate means of transportation. Irish Rail has announced all bookings on these dates will be canceled and refunded.

The November 14 strike coincides with a highly anticipated World Cup play-off match between Ireland and Denmark.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm rail schedules and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
