Argentina: Authorities to decriminalize police violence

Argentinean President Mauricio Macri has proposed a plan to partially decriminalize the use of force by police officers in non-life threatening situations. Previously Argentinean police officers have only been permitted to use force in cases of "legitimate self defense." While human rights groups have condemned the move for allegedly giving security forces tacit approval for violence, authorities say the change is necessary to protect police officers that pursue violent criminals.
