Argentina: No airline pilot strike over Holy Week /update 1
Threatened strike by Argentinian pilots’ association for Holy Week (March 25-April 1) does not materialize; flights operating according to normal schedules as of March 27
Event
Despite previous threats by Argentinian airline pilots to strike during Holy Week (March 25-April 1), such a strike has not materialized and flights are operating on a normal schedule as of Tuesday, March 27. The Asociación de Pilotos de Líneas Aéreas (APLA) union, which originally threatened the work stoppage, has not stated whether they have any plans for future related strikes.
Context
Pilots have been outspoken against the government’s new policies that have opened up Argentina to a number of international airlines, including several “low-cost” firms. The tentative strike was meant to protest these new policies as the APLA has claimed that the government is giving Argentinian jobs to foreigners and that their members are facing layoffs as a result.
Advice
Passengers traveling to, from, or within Argentina are advised to monitor developments to the situation and confirm their travel reservations and itineraries in the event of any potential strikes.
