Algeria: Flooding in Blida April 16

Flooding and damages in Blida April 16

Warning

Event

Torrential rains resulted in major flooding in the wilaya of Blida (north) on Monday, April 16. Considerable damage has been reported, including a collapsed bridge connecting the communes of Oued El Alleug and Mouzaïa. Further road closures due to flooding are possible April 17 and in the following days.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of the situation, avoid areas directly hit by flooding, and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
