Germany: Strike at Stuttgart Airport and public transit strikes April 12 /update 4

Strike at Stuttgart Airport and public transit strikes in Hanover, Wolfsburg, and Stuttgart April 12

Warning

Event

Staff at Stuttgart International Airport (STR) will be on strike on Thursday, April 12. Flight delays and cancelations as well as delays at security checkpoints and baggage claim/drop-off points are possible. Public transit workers are also expected to strike in the Hanover, Wolfsburg, and Stuttgart areas, potentially leading to reduced services, overcrowding, and increased road congestion. Associated protests are also possible.

Context

Numerous strikes have been held throughout the country in recent weeks - most notably a major airport worker strike on April 10 that led to hundreds of flight cancelations - and could continue in the lead-up to the next round of negotiations on April 15 between public sector workers and the government.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm flight statuses, allow for extra time to reach their destinations, and avoid protests as a precaution.
