Argentina: Five marches to the capital May 28 to June 1

A “Federal March for Bread and Work” is set begin in five provinces on Monday, May 28. The caravans are set to leave from the cities of La Quiaca, La Rioja, Posadas, Bariloche, and Ushuaia, ending in Buenos Aires on Friday, June 1. A final demonstration will take place on Friday, with protesters marching from the Pueyrredón Bridge and Retiro to the National Congress building.

The caravan routes are the following:

Context

The protests come amid years of high inflation. Civic groups are demanding the government implement food emergency legislation. They are also denouncing government plans to turn to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) for economic assistance due to fears of further austerity measures.
