Argentina: Anti-narcotic forces to deploy to northern border by August 1

Event

Argentine authorities plan to deploy military forces on the country's northern border to counter drug trafficking in the coming days. The troops will reportedly assist security forces with logistics and strategic surveillance, and troop transportation equipment. Some 500 soldiers will reportedly be deployed on the northern border by August 1 and 3500 more are expected to join them in the near-term. The military presence would complement the increased presence of the gendarmerie, in charge of border security, at Argentina's border with Bolivia and Paraguay.
