Greece: National rail strikes July 18 and July 20 /update 1

National rail strikes in Greece July 18 and July 20; confirm rail timetables

Warning

Event

A 24-hour strike by Greek rail workers is set to take place on Friday, July 20. Furthermore, partial strikes will be held on Wednesday, July 18, from 05:00 to 08:00, 13:00 to 16:00, and 21:00 to midnight (local time). Rail disruptions - reduced services, last-minute cancelations, delays, and overcrowding on available trains - are to be anticipated during these periods on both long-distance trains and commuter rail lines (including in the Athens region). Increased road congestion is also likely in urban areas with commuters forced to use alternate means of transportation. Residual disruptions are possible on Saturday.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm rail timetables via the TrainOSE website and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
