Emergency services respond to fire at northern Rio de Janeiro refinery December 17; traffic disruptions reported

A fire has been reported at the Manguinhos Refinery in northern Rio de Janeiro on the afternoon (local time) of Monday, December 17. No casualties have been reported from the blaze, which is believed to have ignited inside of a fuel truck at the site. Associated traffic disruptions have been reported on major thoroughfares, notably including on BR-101 (Avenida Brasil) - a major route into and out of the city. Lingering traffic disruptions are to be expected in Rio de Janeiro over the coming hours as emergency services continue to battle the fire.
