Brazil: Activists plan to march in central Sao Paulo Nov. 16

Climate activists plan to stage a protest march through central Sao Paulo during the afternoon of Nov. 16. Participants will gather from 15:00 outside the Museum of Art of Sao Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo Assis Chateaubriand, MASP) on Avenida Paulista before marching to Sena Madureira Street. The purpose of the demonstration is to underscore several demands related to climate change and indigenous peoples' rights.

Localized transport and business disruptions are likely in the area, especially along Avenida Paulista, as well as Vergueiro, Domingos de Moraes, and Sena Madureira streets. Authorities will likely deploy an increased police presence to monitor the event. The demonstration will likely remain largely peaceful; however, low-level skirmishes cannot be ruled out.
