Authorities ordered the evacuation of 24,000 people in Brumadinho (Minas Gerais state) on Sunday, January 27, as officials monitor for further dam failures near the municipality. At least 37 people are confirmed dead and more than 250 people are missing as of Sunday morning (local time) following a dam failure near the Córrego do Feijão mine on Friday, January 25, which sent mud and debris into neighboring residential areas. Heavy rains forecast in the area have added to concerns that other dams at the mine might also collapse.
