Ireland: Demonstration at US Embassy in Dublin February 23

Demonstration planned at US Embassy in Dublin February 23; heightened security presence likely

Warning

Event

A demonstration is slated to begin at 13:00 (local time) outside the US Embassy in Dublin on Saturday, February 23, to denounce US foreign policy vis-à-vis Venezuela. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are likely near the demonstration site. Similar protests cannot be ruled out.

Context

The current crisis in Venezuela was spurred by Nicolás Maduro's inauguration to a second term as president on January 10 following last year's contested election, prompting the National Assembly to declare a national emergency. At least 50 foreign governments, including the US, Canada, and Brazil, among others, have since recognized opposition leader Juan Guaidó as the interim head of state.

Advice

Individuals in Dublin are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
