Catalan education unions plan to protest in Barcelona and other cities on May 16 during strike; heightened security measures and traffic disruptions expected

Various education unions are planning to hold demonstrations in Barcelona and other urban areas in the Catalonia autonomous region on Thursday, May 16. Teachers and supporters are expected to gather in Barcelona at Plaça de la Universitat starting at 12:00 (local time). Similar demonstrations are scheduled to take place at the same time in Tarragona at Plaça Imperial Tàrraco and at Plaza de la Ben Plantada in Maresa. Other protests are also possible in other urban areas. Teachers will also be on strike on May 16. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected around all demonstrations.

Context

The strike and protests are being organized by the Intersindical-CSC and the General Confederation of Workers (CGT) unions to highlight staffing grievances, among other issues.
