Protests and associated roadblocks have been reported in Tchaourou (Borgou department) as of Thursday, June 13, leading to traffic disruptions on the Cotonou-Malanville (RNIE2) highway. According to local reports, protesters have clashed with security forces in Tchaourou from Wednesday morning (local time), June 12. Several buildings - including a police station - have been vandalized.  Officials have reportedly deployed police reinforcements to the area on Thursday in preparation for an operation to clear road barricades. 

Localized transportation disruptions can be expected over the coming hours amid a heightened security presence. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out. Similar protests are possible in Tchaourou over the coming days.
