China: Disruptions in Macao due to Typhoon Wipha July 31
Disruptions have been reported in Macao as Typhoon Wipha approaches July 31; rains and associated disruptions expected
Event
The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) issued a Signal No. 8 alert, the third-highest level, for Typhoon Wipha at 14:00 (local time). As of 16:00, Typhoon Wipha was located approximately 300 km (186 mi) south of Macao and moving in the direction of the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong Province.
The Civil Protection Operations Center has indicated that four people in Macao have been injured so far, as the storm brings heavy rain, strong wind and stormy seas. Sustained winds of 64 km per hour (40 mph) and gusts of 84 km per hour (52 mph) were recorded.
An estimated 110 flights have been affected at Macao International Airport (MFM), with two flights delayed and 109 canceled.

Individuals in areas forecast to be affected by Wipha are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders), ensure adequate food, water, battery, and medical supplies, and anticipate significant rainfall, flooding, strong winds, and associated power, telecommunications, and transportation disruptions.
Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters and remember that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products
