Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing in Halkidiki region as of Friday, July 12, after an usually severe storm hit the area on the night (local time) of Wednesday, July 10. Local authorities have declared a state of emergency and the military has been deployed to assist in clearing debris in the area. At least six people were killed and over 100 injured after gale-force winds, hail, and thunderstorms hit the region. Around 80 percent of the region lost power, which was gradually being restored on Thursday, July 11. Limited power outages are possible through Friday as crews continue to repair downed lines. Transportation and commercial are anticipated throughout the Halkidiki peninsula over the coming days as emergency personnel remove debris from roads.
