Warning

Event

Recent heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in towns across Navarre region as of Tuesday, July 9. The body of a driver was reportedly found on Tuesday morning (local time) near the town of Moriones. As a result of the rain, the Cidacos River rose more than 3.3 m (11 ft) in less than five hours, destroying roads, including major highways, and damaging buildings in the area. The towns of Tafalla, Olite, and Pueyo have been substantially damaged as severe flooding continues to affect the region.

Authorities have advised individuals in severely affected areas of Navarre region to remain in their homes as of Tuesday morning as further rainfall is forecast over the coming hours. Transportation disruptions are to be expected in areas affected by flooding over the coming hours and days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor developments, prepare for lingering disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities. Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain chemical products and wastewater; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
