A 48-hour strike has been called by taxi drivers in Barcelona on July 25-26; transportation disruptions expected

Warning

Event

Taxi drivers in Barcelona are slated to protest app-based ride-sharing services on Thursday, July 25, during a 48-hour strike that starts that same day and will end on the evening of Friday, July 26. Drivers are protesting the government's decision to restore regulations that allow companies such as Uber and Cabify to operate in Catalunya.

Some sources indicate that the protest will begin at 06:00 (local time). A march is scheduled on Thursday at 11:00 starting from the Arc de Triomf and will later proceed to the Government Delegation.

Taxi service interruptions are to be expected, including at the Barcelona El-Prat (BCN) airport. Associated localized transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are expected in the vicinity of all protests.

Advice

Individuals in Barcelona and those traveling into/out of BCN are advised to monitor developments to the situation, prepare for transportation disruptions and make alternative arrangements if possible, and avoid all protests as a precaution.
