UAE: Etihad Airways to resume Abu Dhabi-Khartoum flights July 16

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways will resume regular flights between Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) and Khartoum International Airport (KRT) on Tuesday, July 16. Flights are scheduled to leave Abu Dhabi every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 09:50 (local time). The airline had previously suspended service to Sudan on June 9 due to security concerns. Dubai-based Emirates also resumed service to Khartoum on Monday, July 8.

Context

Tensions in Sudan are starting to relax after the ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) and opposition leaders reached a power sharing agreement on July 5. Multiple airlines suspended operations in Sudan after Sudanese security forces and affiliated militias violently dispersed a pro-civilian rule sit-in in Khartoum on June 3. More than 128 people were killed, and hundreds wounded in the assault on the protest camp.
