Wildfire forces evacuation of most areas in Tejeda municipality (Gran Canaria) August 17; spread of the blaze expected over the coming days

A wildfire which recently ignited in the town of Valleseco (Gran Canaria) prompted authorities to evacuate most areas in Tejeda municipality on Saturday, August 17. An emergency area was reportedly declared for Tejeda and Moya municipalities; roads in areas affected by the blaze have been closed.

Though firefighters are battling the wildfire, officials claim the fire has "great potential" to spread on Gran Canaria over the coming days. Transportation and business disruptions are to be expected in areas near the blaze.
