Environmental groups call for protests in Yerevan on September 20; heightened security and localized traffic disruptions expected

Several environmental groups have called for a day of protest in Yerevan on Friday, September 20, to denounce a gold mining project in Amulsar and to bring attention to climate change ahead of the United Nations Climate Summit scheduled to take place in New York from Monday, September 23, to Friday, September 27.
Protesters are expected to gather at the Mashtots Garden at 13:00 (local time).
Organizers have also called for a march at 18:30. The march will proceed from the Opera House, to the Aram Khachaturian Statue, Sayat Nova Street, and Abovyan Street into Republic Square.
A heightened security presence along with localized traffic disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the protest and along the march route.
