Protest against Franc currency Zone and French influence in Cotonou on September 14
Event
Civil society group Urgence Panafricaniste has called for a protest to be held in Cotonou on Saturday, September 14, to denounce the use of the CFA franc currency and denounce what they perceive as the persisting French influence over its former colonies. Protesters are expected to gather at 15:00 (local time) at Place de l'Etoile rouge.
A heightened security presence along with localised transportation disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the protests.
Advice
Individuals in Cotonou are advised to avoid all demonstrations as violence may flare up without warning.
