Trade unions plan protests and public transport strikes between September 24-26; heightened security presence and associated disruptions expected

Unions representing public transport workers in Greece has called for protests and strikes between Tuesday, September 24, and Thursday, September 26. In Athens, a 24-hour public transport strike including bus, train, and subway services, is due to begin at 11:00 (local time) on Tuesday. A countrywide 24-hour ferry and ship strike is also scheduled to start at 06:00 on Tuesday. Several protests are due to take place on the same day including at 10:30 in Propylaea and at 11:00 in Klathmonos Square.
The Pan-Hellenic Federation of Railways has also called for a 24-hour strike on September 26.
Some unions have said that they will call off the September 24 strike if the government addresses their concerns beforehand. A heightened security presence and associated transport and business disruptions are expected during the work stoppages and near protest sites.
