On Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1, protests erupted in the Arhiba district over the arrest of a journalist and opposition activist for reasons unknown. Clashes erupted with the police, who reportedly used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse protesters. At least 50 people were injured in the clashes. As of Monday, November 4, order has been slightly restored in the capital, although tensions remain high as protesters continue to demand the release of the journalist. A heightened security presence reportedly remains in the district.
