Spain: Weather warnings issued along northwest coast, central and southeastern Spain November 4-5

The Spanish meteorology agency, AEMET, has issued weather warnings in several areas along the northwest coast, and across central and southeastern Spain on Monday, November 4. AEMET issued orange warnings (the second-highest on a four tier scale) for the northwest coast, forecasting storm surge. It also issued yellow warnings (third highest) forecasting strong winds extending from the northwest coast, through central Spain, down to the southeastern coast. AEMET has also issued yellow warnings for storm surge on the coasts of the Balearic Islands, and the along the southeastern coast of the Spanish mainland. Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday, November 5, with orange storm surge warnings remaining for the northwest coast and yellow storm surge warnings on the coasts of the Balearic Islands. However, yellow wind warnings remain only in isolated areas in the south and southeast of the country. 

At least one person died due to strong winds on Sunday, November 3. 

Transportation, power, and commercial disruptions are possible in the affected areas in the coming hours.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, confirm road conditions before heading out, anticipate adverse weather and power, transportation, commercial, and communications disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
