CAR: Anti-MINUSCA demonstration possible in Bangui March 4

Anti-MINUSCA demonstration possible in Bangui on March 4; heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions expected

Warning

Event

An anti-United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) demonstration, organized by the Central African Patriots Movement for Peace (MPCP), remains possible on Wednesday, March 4, despite a ban from authorities. Should the protest go ahead, participants will gather at the protest's original site, in front of MINUSCA's headquarters in Bangui.

According to media sources, the demonstration, which seeks the departure of UN employees from the country, was banned after the UN Security Council strongly denounced the anti-UN media campaign taking place across the country.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected near MINUSCA's headquarters on March 4 and in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in Bangui are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
