5.0-magnitude earthquake strikes east of Makry Gialos (Crete island) on April 11; aftershocks possible over the near term

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.0-magnitude earthquake 18 km (11 mi) east of Makry Gialos (Crete island) at approximately 13:22 (local time). The quake struck at a depth of 10 km (6 mi) and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
Aftershocks are possible in the affected areas over the coming hours and days.
