On Saturday, July 4, over a hundred animal-rights activists protested outside the Tönnies meat processing plant in Gütersloh district (North Rhine Westphalia state), which has been the center of a recent outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Members of the "Gemeinsam gegen die Tierindustrie" group reportedly scaled the roof of the plant to unfurl a banner and also blocked a major access road to the plant. Three demonstrators were arrested by police during the protest.

Further protests are possible in the vicinity of the plant in the near term.

Gütersloh district was placed under lockdown on June 23 after over 1500 workers at the Tönnies meat processing plant tested positive for COVID-19.
