Wildfires near Corinth (Peloponnese) continued for a second consecutive day on Thursday, July 23. Some 236 firefighters are reportedly tackling the blaze, aided by firefighting aircraft. The wildfire lightly damaged three homes in the nearby villages of Athikia and Alamano and destroyed one fire truck, without causing any injuries to residents or firefighters. As a precaution, hundreds of people were evacuated near the village of Kechries, including a summer camp and settlements close to a military camp where explosives are reportedly stored.
Further spread of the wildfires is possible over the coming hours and days. Localized transportation disruptions are to be expected near the fires.
