Germany: Public transport strike to take place in Hesse on October 6

The trade union Verdi, which represents 87,000 workers from 130 public transport companies across the country, has called on its members to stage a strike in Hesse on Tuesday, October 6, following unsuccessful negotiations over pay. Several cities are due to be impacted by the strike, including Frankfurt, Kassel, and Wiesbaden. The hours during which the walkout will take place will vary by city, but trams, buses, and the U-Bahn (metro) network are expected to be impacted in each city. Reports state that in Frankfurt the above services will be impacted from 03:00 (local time). The trade union believes that discrepancies in wages in different states have grown over the years and is calling for a nationwide standard pay for its workers.

Further nationwide disruptions to service related to the dispute may take place in the near term.
