Heavy rains cause flooding in parts of Crete on November 10; monitor weather updates

Heavy rains during the morning of Tuesday, November 10, have caused flooding in parts of northern Crete. Among the worst affected areas are those located to the east of Iraklion, including the town Hersonissos, where emergency services responded to calls for assistance from inundated households and businesses. Authorities have advised residents in several towns and villages in the affected area to remain indoors and a number of schools have been closed. Floodwaters have damaged several roads in the area. No injuries or fatalities have been currently reported. Authorities have warned residents in areas vulnerable to flooding to move to higher ground, particularly those in Analipsi, Anisaras, Koutouloufari, and Stalida.
Further flooding and associated disruptions are likely in the coming days.
