Germany: Protest to denounce COVID-19 restrictions scheduled in Frankfurt Dec. 12
Activists plan to protest across Frankfurt, Dec. 12, to denounce COVID-19 restrictions.
Event
Activists are planning to protest in Frankfurt Dec. 12 to denounce perceived restrictive measures related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Despite a ban on the event, participants are likely to gather at several locations across the city for speeches, rallies, and other events. All constituent factions are then likely to congregate for a mass demonstration from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof via Mainzer Landstrasse, Bockenheimer Anlage, Kurt-Schumacher-Strasse, Berliner Strasse, and Gutleutstrasse before returning to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. Organizers have stated that up to 40,000 participants are expected.
Additional police will likely deploy to monitor the events; related security measures, including possible movement restrictions, could prompt localized disruptions. Authorities may attempt to disperse the event if the ban remains in place; clashes between participants and security forces cannot be discounted.
Advice
Remain alert and allow additional time for travel in central Frankfurt during the morning and afternoon hours of Dec. 12. Avoid any demonstrations as a routine security precaution. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
