Magnitude-5.2 offshore earthquake occurs in Aegean Sea west of Mitilini, Greece, 1035 Feb. 1. No immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Event
A magnitude-5.2 offshore earthquake occurred in the Aegean Sea at 1035 Feb. 1. The epicenter was about 39 km (24 miles) west of Mitilini, on the island of Lesbos in Greece, and 60 km (37 miles) west of Ayvalik, Turkey. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles) and light shaking was probably felt through much of Greece's northern Aegean islands and in coastal areas of western Turkey's Izmir, Balikesir, Canakkale, and Edirne provinces. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake, and significant damage is unlikely. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. The event has not prompted any tsunami advisories.

Plan accordingly for aftershocks. Out of an abundance of caution vacate multistory buildings where shaking was felt. Monitor local media for updates.
