Activists plan to hold demonstrations in multiple cities throughout Latin America on March 7-8 to demand equal rights for women as part of the commemoration of International Women's Day. Organizers have confirmed the following specific events:

  • Monterrey, Mexico: Rally at Colegio Civil starting 1130 March 7

  • Mexico City, Mexico: March from Monumento a la Revolucion to the Zocalo starting at 1330 March 8

  • San Jose, Costa Rica: March from Parque Central starting at 1600 March 8

  • Liberia, Costa Rica: Rally outside Tribunales de Justicia starting at 1600 March 8

  • Caracas, Venezuela: March from Plaza Bolivar to Plaza Morelos starting at 1200 March 8

  • Bogota, Colombia: March from Parque Nacional to Plaza de Bolivar starting at 1400 March 8

  • Buenos Aires, Argentina: Rally at the National Congress starting at 1700 March 8.

  • Santiago, Chile: Demonstrations at multiple locations, including Plaza Baquedano (also known as Plaza de la Dignidad) starting at 1500 March 8.

  • Montevideo, Uruguay: March from Plaza Independencia and Plaza de los Bomberos to Plaza Libertad starting at 1700 March 8.

Related demonstrations are also likely in other major cities across the region. The largest gatherings could draw tens of thousands of participants. Heightened security is likely, as are associated transport and business disruptions. Clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out, especially in Mexico City.
