Armenia: Shirak International Airport suspends operations through Sept, 15

Shirak International Airport, Gyumri, Armenia, suspends flights until Sept. 15 for maintenance; congestion possible on parallel routes.

Warning

Event

Flights to and from Shirak International Airport (LWN), 80 km (50 miles) northwest of Yerevan, have been suspended through at least Sept. 15 to facilitate essential maintenance; the work could overrun beyond that date.

LWN is Armenia’s second-busiest airport and operates international flights to Georgia and Russia. Some flights could be diverted to Yerevan-Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) during the closure. Increased congestion is possible on flights serving parallel routes at EVN until the maintenance work at LWN has concluded. During the holiday season, greater than usual passenger numbers could also prompt minor security and baggage-processing delays at EVN.

Advice

Confirm airport status before travel; if traveling via EVN, allow additional time for processing and arrive at the airport early to prevent your seat from being allocated to a standby passenger.
