Armenia: Opposition activists to demonstrate in central Yerevan from 18:00 Nov. 8

Opposition activists to demonstrate in central Yerevan, Armenia, from 18:00 Nov. 8; heightened security, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

The opposition group Armenia Alliance will lead protests in central Yerevan Nov. 8 to denounce the current government and demand its resignation. Participants will gather at Freedom Square from 18:00; attendance will likely be in the thousands.

Additional police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the action. Large numbers of people and associated security measures, including possible road closures and movement restrictions, will likely result in localized transport disruptions; public transport in the area may be canceled or diverted. The event is likely to be largely peaceful though isolated clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if activists attempt to breach any security cordons. While bystanders are unlikely to be targeted in any violence, they would face an indirect threat of physical harm.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Check for disruptions and allow extra time for travel in the affected area the evening of Nov. 8.
