A bomb explosion was reported in Kismayo, Lower Juba, Feb. 22. Reports indicate the bomb was planted on the car of a renowned Islamic cleric, killing him. Further casualties are possible. There have been no claims of responsibility and the motive for the attack is unclear; however, the Al-Shabaab militant group is the most likely perpetrator. The incident happened amid ongoing parliamentary elections.

Heightened security is almost certain in the impacted area and near prominent government buildings in the coming hours.
