Norway: Authorities issue avalanche warnings across multiple regions March 7 /update 1
Authorities issue warnings for high risk of avalanches across parts of Norway March 7; disruptions to overland transport possible.

The Norwegian avalanche warning service Varsom has issued red-level avalanche warnings (the second-highest level on a five-tier scale) across parts of Norway effective March 7. The areas under the red warnings are Nord-Trondelag and Helgeland. Orange warnings are in place across much of the rest of central Norway and in some northern parts of the country. The heightened avalanche threat is due to strong winds, rainfall, melting snow, and loose ice pack in these regions.
The avalanches could block roads and railway tracks and cause damage to nearby infrastructure with little warning. Power outages could occur in affected areas due to damage to power lines or other electricity supply infrastructure. Due to the heightened avalanche risk, authorities may close some mountain passes and other routes near unstable slopes as a precaution.
