Argentina: Agricultural workers to stage tractor rally in and around Buenos Aires April 23

Activists to stage tractor rally in and around Buenos Aires, Argentina, April 23. Increased police presence, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Agricultural workers plan to stage a tractor rally in Buenos Aires April 23. The purpose of the action is to denounce the government's agricultural policies. Participants will gather with their vehicles at the junctions of national routes 8 and 193 and of routes 9 and 193 between 08:00-10:30 before proceeding into the nation's capital in two convoys. A rally will subsequently take place Plaza de Mayo in front of the Casa Rosada, the office of the president.

The event will likely prompt transport and business disruptions along national routes 8 and 9, as well as on Avenida Roque Saenz Pena and Avenida 9 de Julio. While the protest will probably remain largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse crowds.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Seek alternative routes to circumvent protest-related disruptions. Do not attempt to drive through any protester roadblocks; wait for the police to dismantle them before proceeding. Allow additional time to reach destinations near potential demonstration sites. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
