Mexico: Government to end state-level COVID-19 monitoring effective May 1 /update 64

Mexico to end state-level COVID-19 risk monitoring as of May 1; remaining restrictions to be lifted.

Informational

Event

The government of Mexico plans to end the COVID-19 transmission risk monitoring for each of the country's states effective May 1. Additionally, authorities have declared that they will now deal with the virus as endemic instead of a pandemic. This means that COVID-19 will be treated as a seasonally recurring disease and the nation's few remaining restrictions will be lifted. Mexico's northern border is open for all travel. International air travel to and from Mexico has continued unabated, and authorities are not enforcing any quarantine or testing requirements for arriving travelers.

Authorities could tighten any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national and regional health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays.
