Sierra Leone eases COVID-19-related travel protocol and facemask requirements as of April 21.

Warning

Event

As of April 21, authorities have eased the COVID-19-related travel protocol and the facemask requirements in public spaces. Vaccinated travelers can enter Sierra Leone without any testing requirements. While unvaccinated inbound travelers no longer need a pre-departure test, a test upon arrival remains mandatory. All travelers leaving Sierra Leone are required to present a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours of departure. Domestically, facemasks are no longer mandatory in public spaces for vaccinated individuals.

Domestic Measures
Individuals must show proof of vaccination to access places, such as public facilities, sporting venues, hotels, bars, and restaurants. Public gatherings, including weddings and receptions, may resume with strict health protocols in place.

International Travel Restrictions
Incoming travelers must complete an online travel form accessible by clicking here. Unvaccinated travelers must book the arrival test via the online travel form. Those who test positive on arrival will be isolated at a government-approved facility.

Travelers departing Sierra Leone must also complete the online travel form to receive a unique SO (Sierra Leone Outbound) number.

The nation's land borders are open to international traffic under the same aforementioned health protocols.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements and requirements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions.
