Argentina: Truckers to protest in Tucuman Province from May 31

Truckers to protest across Tucuman Province, Argentina, from May 31; widespread travel disruptions likely for the duration of protests.

Warning

Event

The Association of Truckers of Tucuman (Asociacion de Transportadores de Cargas de Tucuman) have called for an indefinite strike and protests across the province from May 31. The strike participants have said that they will not allow cargo trucks to transit on the main routes of Tucuman Province from midnight on May 31. The organizers have not confirmed specific protest locations, and it remains unclear if other vehicles will be allowed to transit during protests. The labor action was called to protest fuel shortages in the province, among other issues.

Traffic disruptions are likely, especially in the provincial capital, San Miguel de Tucuman, and along Ruta Nacional 9 and Ruta Nacional 38. Police will probably deploy to monitor the protests. Major violence is unlikely; however, the possibility of isolated confrontations between protesters and other truck drivers attempting to cross the blockades cannot be dismissed.

Advice

Avoid all protests. Do not attempt to cross any protester roadblocks encountered. Confirm all freight arrangements from May 31; consider alternate shipping arrangements for critical parcels.
