Al-Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing that left at least four individuals dead and several others injured at the KM4 junction of Mogadishu the morning of May 11. The attack reportedly targeted officials heading towards Afisyoni airbase, located near Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ).

Increased security and localized disruptions will likely persist over the coming hours as security forces conduct their investigation.

Context

The incident is taking place ahead of the presidential election scheduled May 15. Al-Shabaab militants regularly target the capital and will likely attempt to carry out further such attacks in the capital over the coming days.
