Informational

Event

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) party has called for protests in several cities and towns June 25-27. JI leaders intend to denounce economic issues, including rising inflation and unemployment. Participants will commence protests at Rahim Yar Khan 08:30 June 25 before traveling by train to other locations. Organizers have announced protests in some major cities and towns, including:

  • June 25: Liaquatpur, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, Multan

  • June 26: Multan, Raiwind, Lahore

  • June 27: Lahore, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi

Likely protest locations include train stations, government buildings, party offices, public squares, and major intersections. Several dozen to a few hundred people will likely attend protests in larger cities. Protests will also occur in several other smaller cities and towns, though participation will likely be smaller.

Authorities will likely monitor protests and may try to disperse especially disruptive gatherings. Clashes between protesters and police are possible. Protests and resultant security responses may prompt localized transport disruptions.

Advice

Avoid protests due to possible clashes. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near protests.
