A police operation is underway in the Complexo do Alemao area in the north of Rio de Janeiro, July 21, after armed criminals attacked a police station in the area. According to officials, criminals fatally shot an officer at the Fazendinha police station on Sao Cristovao Road early July 21. The attack led to an armed confrontation that also resulted in the death of two suspects and at least one civilian. Criminals have reportedly set up barricades with burning debris in some areas of Complexo do Alemao to disrupt police search operations.
Public transport near the area is likely to be suspended July 21. Heightened security and significant disruptions are likely to continue in the coming hours.
