Informational

Event

Further protests are likely in Nctheu, Central Region, through at least Aug. 11 following unrest in the city July 27 over the high cost of living. Participants initially gathered and marched towards the District Council Office to deliver a petition to the authorities providing a 14-day ultimatum to answer their grievances. Protesters then erected roadblocks with burning tires along the M1 road. Police forces fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Increased security and localized road disruptions are likely near all protest sites that materialize over the coming days. Clashes with security forces are possible if protesters are overly disruptive or disrupt road traffic.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations. If crowds form or violence occurs nearby, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure location. Reconfirm the status of the M1 near Nctheu before departure.
