Protesting workers disrupting transport along the International Friendship Bridge in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, Aug. 29.
Event
Around 200 transport workers are demonstrating along the International Friendship Bridge in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, Aug. 29. The bridge connects Ciudad del Este with Foz do Iguacu in Brazil. The purpose of the action is to denounce the recent death of a Brazilian motorcyclist who was crossing the bridge.
While the action has remained largely peaceful, there will probably be increased police near the demonstration as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse crowds. Localized transport and business disruptions are highly likely.
Advice
Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area. Seek alternate routes. Do not attempt to drive through protester roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them instead before proceeding. Allow additional time to reach destinations near potential protest locations. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
