Al-Shabaab militants killed at least 12 construction workers in the village of Gariley, Gedo Region, Sept. 30. According to local sources, the assailants attacked the workers during the construction of a well. Security forces have deployed to the area.

Increased security measures will likely persist in the area in the near term; security forces may erect additional checkpoints, enforce a curfew, or other security restrictive measures. Further attacks are likely.
