Unions representing electrical employees call for sit-ins across Benin Nov. 2. Related power disruptions are unlikely.

Informational

Event

A coalition of unions have called on Societe Beninoise d'Energie Electrique (SBEE) electrical company employees to sit-in protests at SBEE sites nationwide Nov. 2. The unions have cited a list of grievances, including poor working conditions and a shortage of staff, for the action.

It is unclear how many employees will participate and if the lack of personnel may affect electricity continuity in the country; such disruptions have not been announced. Heightened security and localized road disruptions are possible in the vicinity of all SBEE sites. Clashes with security forces cannot be ruled out if protesters are overly disruptive or if police forcibly disperse protesters.

Advice

Avoid all protests to mitigate associated disruptions. Abide by all official directives.
